The Unthanks for WOOD / Alex Chilton RIP
Date submitted: 18 Mar 2023 01:20 PM

This latest bit of sunshine has given WOOD festival the first taste of Spring and with that comes one of the final branches to the festival’s already blossoming (and heavily bearded) line up – it’s all about the ladies now with Rachel Unthank’s award winning, mercury nominated and critically lauded band THE UNTHANKS confirmed to play Sunday afternoon, with PEGGY SUE also on this vibrant young bill.

(oh - one of them does have a beard - sorry)

If you've been watching closely you'll already know that the N saturated line-up also features punkfolk troubador FRANK TURNER, TUNNG, FIONN REGAN, 2008 winner of Radio 2 Folk Award for best album MARTIN SIMPSON, DANNY AND THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD and, all the way from the USA, FRONTIER RUCKUS. Also confirmed are ORA COGAN, TREVOR MOSS & HANNAH LOU, and DUSTY AND THE DREAMING SPIRES (ps, Dusty and several other TRUCK faves appear on an excellent new compilation of UK Americana "Divided by a Common Language" which is out this week on Clubhouse Records).

WOOD is not only powered by the HIPPY ARMS' fine selections of local brews - it's powered completely on renewable energy, harnessing the power of the sun, the wind and even the people who attend the event (through a cycle-powered cinema and disco), there are composting toilets (no portaloos! whoop!) and a stage made of, you guessed it, WOOD.

Get your tickets here for WOOD festival - or if you are tempted to come to WOOD and TRUCK you can become one of growing number of SuperTruckers (it's like being in the X-men without the persecution for being a 'freak'), turn into a supertrucker HERE or head down to one of our many local shop outlets in Oxfordshire, Reading and London.

We heard the sad news this morning that Alex Chilton of Big Star has died, so we're dedicating TRUCK 13 to him. The music of Big Star was brought to renewed attention in the last few years by the likes of REM, The Posies and Teenage Fanclub - for those that haven't yet heard their 3 albums, go and do so now.

Love from the Truckers x
