Wood is TRUCK’s folkier, younger, cleaner, greener and mysteriously beardier brother. The fourth WOOD festival, celebrating music and nature in the beautiful surroundings of Braziers Park, Oxfordshire will take place on the weekend of May 20th, 21st 22nd 2011.
the roots of Wood.
Created after the floods of 2007, it’s a celebration of music and nature, WOOD is Britain’s Greenest festival. The event runs entirely on renewable energy and aims to highlight green issues and through participation promote an ecologically friendly lifestyle, with composting toilets, showers heated by wood-burning stove and a solar-powered stage. You can even spend your time dancing into the night in the bicycle-powered disco!
Workshops
There will be opportunities for everyone, from children to grandparents, to participate. With workshops including singing, woodcraft, yoga to making wallets from orange juice cartons, and a fashion dress parade – with plenty of opportunities to learn more and join in our lively lunchtime discussions.
Music
Alongside all that, we’ve even booked some choice music as well!
Friday night will see the Wood stage graced with the presence of British Folk Award-winning singer Eliza Carthy and her band. Eliza Carthy, the daughter of Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson and a leading light of the British folk scene in her own right, is sure to be a highlight.
Saturday sees the return of Willy Mason. The Martha’s Vineyard song-writer is a recent favourite of ours at Truck, having played the inaugural Truck America festival last April, and anyone who saw his set(s) at OX4 will know he was one of the hits of the festival! He comes to Wood then, complete with a set of new songs to go alongside material from classic debut LP ‘Where The Humans Eat’.
Finally, Thea Gilmore will be travelling all the way from the North (of Oxfordshire) to Braziers Park. One of the most prolific songwriters of her generation (she’s released ten albums in ten years) and a brit nominee, and last year’s Murphy’s Heart was released to much critical acclaim.
Alongside them is a wide-ranging roster of talent ranging from Trucking favourites like Katy Bennett, The Epstein, Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou, and Jali Fily Cissokho, through to acts new to us that we’re just as excited about! Watch this space (or that flyer) for more information…
