This year Truck is set to be better than ever. Oxford’s finest festival will be providing some of the best entertainment including one of the city’s most vibrant and exciting acts, The Young Knives.
Originally hailing from Leicestershire the trio dressed in tweed moved to the city of dreaming spires in search of inspiration. Oxford’s rich musical heritage has long played a major part harbouring world famous bands and producing legendary venues turning the archaic city into a breeding ground for fresh new talent.
It was only a matter of time until The Young Knives established themselves as a truly unique British band. Their first ever appearance at Truck was in 2002 when the three piece started to generate attention with their memorable set followed by the release of their first album ‘The Young Knives …Are Dead’ on Oxford’s local label Shifty Disco.
In 2006 they released their second album ‘Voices of Animals and Men’, which propelled them into the mainstream. During that summer the band toured the UK’s major festivals showcasing their seasonal anthem ‘Hot Summer’. In less than a year they were in the limelight again after being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Since then the band have been on tour sharing their unusual eccentricities with the rest of the world whilst releasing their widely acclaimed third album ‘Superabundence’ in 2008.
This year Oxford regained its only independent music shop in support of independent retail and home grown talent. In a worldwide initiative to save independent music, Truck Store joined Record Store Day and staged an in store concert, showcasing Oxford’s best and brightest including The Young Knives.
With the release of their fourth studio album ‘Ornaments from the Silver Parade’, Truck are proud to see the return of a true festival favourite. A band that continues to evolve, The Young Knives are testament to Oxford’s diverse and eclectic tastes. It’s been nine years since their first festival appearance at Truck and now the boys are back with four albums and a Mercury Music prize nomination under their belt.
Alongside The Young Knives, Graham Coxon, Gruff Ryhs, Bellowhead, Johnny Flynn, The Go Team!, Saint Ettienne and many more will be performing over the July weekend. Announcements for the Oxford Playhouse and Comedy & Cabaret Stages are yet to be confirmed.
