Comedy
Truck is proud to announce this year’s line-up for the Comedy and Cabaret stage. Kicking off Truck’s Comedy Tent will be the award winning and controversial Richard Herring. Dubbed as one of the UK’s most prolific comedians, Herring will be arriving in Steventon fresh from his critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fridge show tour, Christ On A Bike: The Second Coming.
This year’s calibre continues to grow stronger with acts such as Angela Barnes, finalist in the BBC’s New Comedy Award show, while Matt Richardson, a young gun new to the comedy scene and winner of the Newbury Comedy New Act of the year award, will compere the afternoon performance as well performing his own set. Keeping within the ethos of supporting up and coming local talent, Chris Turner joins this year’s line-up. Prior to becoming a BBC New Comedy Award Finalist, Chris Turner sprang from Oxford University’s comedy troupe The Oxford Imps. Since his national success, Turner has gone on to win a whole host of comedy gongs including Leicester Square New Act of the Year and more recently Bath Comedy Festival New Act of the Year award.
Cabaret
This year’s cabaret stage is set to continue long into the summer night providing Truck revellers with a whole host of bands, burlesque dancers; DJ’s and acts reminiscent of 50’s American sub-culture.
The Long Insiders and The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band are two of Oxford’s finest nostalgic rockabilly acts that will compliment Truck’s diverse and eclectic tastes. The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band shows are a succession of suave, concise numbers full of brassy, rasping sax, raucous rhythm, full-on swing-dancing music, and the stage is set for authentic, prohibition-era, speakeasy experience!
As well as that, we welcome The Severed Limb to the cabaret tent. A skiffle band from London town, The Severed Limb are guaranteed to get the crowd “fussin’ and a fightin’” for the dance floor. Their latest single “Woo Eee. Ha! Ha!” is a perfect foil to a night of rockin’ burlesque. Described as “a dirty three way between Dick Dale, Poison Ivy and Link Wray”, Truckers will need to hold on to their beautifully quiffed do’s. Alongside them are burlesque acts Miss Amelia, Miss Betsy Rose, and Daisy Deluxe all strutting their stuff.
Warming things up for the night time shenanigans will be Oxford’s very own Cabaret Clandestino – a mix of spoken word (often humorous) with a dash of fine music and improve featuring an acoustic performance from Little Fish, The Geees, The Oxford Imps, Faceometer, George Chopping, Matt Chanerin, Matt Winkworth, James Bell, Ben Walker, Mark Niel and Robin Lawley.
