For the second year in a row, our fellow Steventon resident and broadcasting legend Bob Harris is presenting his own stage at TRUCK, featuring several of his favourite Nashville artists and several UK americana acts featured on Clubhouse Records' Divided By A Common Language compilation.
The lovely chaps at Clubhouse have made this cool film about Truck, enjoy!
If that piques your interest, here's some more from Bob about the acts on his stage:
MOJO PINS
Mojo Pins are a fantastic new four piece band from Didcot, Oxfordshire who have been getting rave reviews wherever they play. Everyone says they’re going to be big. They opened the Cornbury Festival earlier this month and are the first band on my stage here at Truck 2010.
BRIANA HARDYMAN
From Wisconsin via New York to Nashville TN, Briana Lynn Hardyman has been writing and performing since 2006. Her self-released CD ‘People Like Me’ is a gem. ‘Maverick’ magazine called it ‘...a timeless album that we’ll still be raving about in ten, twenty maybe, even thirty years from now’.
DEAD JERICHOS
I first saw Dead Jerichos at a Battle Of The Bands contest at Oxfringe earlier this year. I thought they were fantastic...powerful and real. I was one of the judges that night and the band won hands down. The prize? An appearance on my stage here at Truck.
CEDARS
Plying tales of lost love, revenge and rural homicide, London four-piece the Cedars are at the cutting edge of the UK alt country scene. Their debut album ‘Little Copper Still’ was recorded in California. I love it and have been playing tracks on my Radio 2 shows.
TWO FINGERS OF FIREWATER
Like The Cedars, Two Fingers Of Firewater are also part of the ‘Divided By A Common Language’ compilation released by Clubhouse Records a few months ago. Chaotic and energy-charged I can’t wait to see them play.
REDLANDS PALOMINO COMPANY
Described by Americana UK as ‘Britain’s finest Country Rockers’, the band have toured with Richmond Fontaine, Tift Merritt, The Sadies and the Deadstring Brothers and recorded a stand-out session for ‘Bob Harris Country’ on Radio 2 last year.
PINEY GIR
Born in Kansas, now based in London, Piney is a one-off. She’s part of the Truck family, having released albums on the label. She’s completely barmy, totally wonderful and Mark Radcliffe, Phill Jupitas and our Gen are also massive fans. You will be too.
PETER COOPER
And from the UK, we move to East Nashville and the Red Beet label community. Peter is a big hero of mine...a writer, musician and journalist of the highest calibre. He’s our ‘Bob Harris Country’ Nashville correspondent and has more knowledge of Country music than just about anyone I know.
PHIL LEE
Another Red Beet label artist, Phil is the Roadhouse King...a wild, warm, hippie Country rebel, who describes his music as ‘...George Jones on acid’. He’s one of a kind, playing in the key of love. His session on my Country show was one of the most enjoyable ever.
ELIZABETH COOK
I am pleased and thrilled to be bringing to my stage someone I consider to be a major artist. Elizabeth is the authentic voice of modern day Country music. Her new album ‘Welder’ was produced by Don Was, ‘...who helps me to continue to break out of jail’. Rodney Crowell is also a huge supporter.
LAST TRAIN HOME
Last Train Home have played more than a thousand shows across America. Lead by label boss Eric Brace, they are also the Red Beet Records house band. Described recently as ‘...one of the America’s most formidable roots-rock bands’, they bring their fine harmonies and intelligent songs from East Nashville to my stage here in rural Oxfordshire.
THE EPSTEIN
On the night I first saw Dead Jerichos play at Oxfringe I also saw The Epstein, who topped the bill. I thought they were fabulous and immediately invited them to close my show on the ‘Bob Harris Stage’ this year. Perfect.
